Clubs at Franklin
Asian club is all about exposing the Franklin Community to ‘Oriental culture.' We want people to have an increased awareness of Asian issues and traditions. This ranges from cuisine to customs. This semester, Asian Club has presented the Philippine documentary Imelda, the Chinese movie House of Flying Daggers and the Japanese ‘Spirited Away.' We have served exceptional sushi in these various events. We will be showing the Chinese movie Hero sometime soon. And next semester, we will be having a Food Night. So stay tuend, the invasion has only begun.
- Mario Villamor, President
Amnesty International:
In this club, we will campaign for internationally recognized human rights. Our focus is to use letter writing as an effective tool to draw attention to international human rights violations, political prisoners, and unjust and unreasonable limitations on personal liberties, whenever and wherever they occur. We do this in the hope of promoting equality and ensuring the human rights that all people are endowed with; we hope that our letter writing ultimately brings about a positive change for the people we are writing for and the governments we are writing to. Recent issues include child soldiers in Liberia and the death penalty in China .
- Nichole Rousseau-McAllister , President
Arab Club:
The Arab Club is for the Arab in us all. The aim of this club is to help people learn about our fascinating culture through fun activities. We work on creating a close community among Arab students and their friends. We also want to increase awareness on issues pertinent to the Arab World. The best way to help us is to participate in our cultural activities, or to offer monetary support. We may be having a movie night in the very near future, so keep your eyes open! And I hope everyone enjoyed Arabic Night.
- Ban Al-Turk, President
Greek Club:
“The aim of Greek Club is to promote Hellenic culture and identity, dispelling cultural and mythological stereotypes. While at the same time doing it in an enjoyable and fun atmosphere. Thus far, Greek Club plans to teach Greek classes; however, time has been an issue with the Greek speakers. There are also plans to possibly perform a Greek play. Also, screenings of Greek movies for movie nights. Lastly of course is Greek Night.”
Max Budnikov , Treasurer
- Greg Papadopoulos , President
Swedish Club:
This is not a club, it's more like an evening. The president of this club would rather wait and review it after the actual event, which will be announced shortly. To quote her, “it just seems more logical.”
- Annabelle Stewart , President
Swim Club:
The Swim team is coached by us, Annabelle Stewart , Drew Fabien, and Asuka Ashida. Swimming is the best exercise one can get. We plan on have at least two practices per week. This club is taken very seriously, if you're interested in joining, come prepared for the intense practice sessions.

Lugano Street Dance:
The Top Secret Lugano Street Dance Club is one of the biggest and most active clubs at Franklin , and it proudly hosts weekly hip-hop workouts in the auditorium. There is also typically a hip-hop dance party put on for the entire student body at the end of the semester, and even occasional surprise performances downtown. All levels of experience are welcome and this semester we meet on Wednesdays from 8-9. A typical class session usually includes a warm-up and some stretching, some basic muscle building (crunches, push-ups etc) and a routine.
The Republic of Texas Club:
This club was created "as a reminder of what Texas once was, still is, and will continue to be, a record of our proud heritage, and an organization for all the Texans living abroad, The Republic of Texas Club serves all of us and Honorary Members of this awesome Citizenship." At Franklin , and in the international community at large, there is a tendency to generalize all Americans, and stereotype according to what is seen in the movies or on TV. The Republic of Texas Club invites everyone to experience a big part of the diverse American culture. Being an active club is important to us, so each meeting contains a cultural component and any questions (from Texans and non-Texans) are entertained. Other ongoing goals include our "flag in every dorm" initiative, spirit days, movie nights, and the spontaneous "Texas Soapbox". Our next event is the Texas BBQ, on Saturday November 19 at 3:00 pm on the Panera lawn. Tickets are 5 francs and you can get them from Jacci Brown or Sara Kellogg.
This club meets biweekly, members are notified of the time and place by email. Most correspondence takes place over the internet and meeting attendance is not mandatory because Texas is a 'state of mind'. We do however have great turnout and exceptional team work and participation. If you would like to join The Republic of Texas Club, or get on the email list, please send a message to our great secretary Jacci Brown (jbrown@student.fc.edu). For more information about our club you can also visit our Website at www.fctex.com
- Annie Maxey , President
French Club:
This club promotes the Francophone culture and French language. The club gives students an opportunity to speak French in an informal environment outside of the classroom. Events include a French Night, which took place recently and was very successful (we served two kinds of delicious homemade crepes), and French movie nights. We practice French at weekly gatherings throughout the year. If you are interested in joining, please contact Professor Steinert-Borella , our esteemed advisor, or Molly Burns.
- Molly Burns, President
German Club:
The club will eventually host a variety of social activities that are open to Franklin students. In previous years we had a reputation for providing excellent food. This group is group dedicated to the people, culture, traditions and language of Germany and German -speaking countries. So far this year, we have not hosted any events because we are still waiting for the full approval of Student Union, who will hopefully provide us with financial assistance.
- Maike Friedrich, President
The Adventure Club:
This club gives students the opportunity to students to be involved in unique experiences. Activities include: participation in International Foodnight (which we won 2 nd place for), bungee jumping, sledding in Interlocken, and a trip to Zurcih for the Harry Potter premier, which people have to dress up for.

Samantha Dobrowolski , President
Skeeball:
What is skeeball? To quote Scott Wade, “ Skeeball , generally seen at arcades and county fairs, is a game where players roll a ball up a ramp into different holes.” This group meets on Mondays in Florida at 21:00 in the common room. We play music, have fun, play games. This is supposedly Franklin 's most popular club.
- Tighe Flanagan , President
Far Lawn:
The Far Lawn is a club which promotes community service and environmental awareness in and around the Franklin College community. We are currently working on a recycling campaign on the main campus and surrounding residences, which hopes to get the whole school involved. In the past we have made eco-books of recycled paper to hand out to Franklin students, and some have also been sent to Africa with the academic travel groups. I hope this is what you were looking for. We don't have an exact mission statement right now, so I tried to word it the best I could. Just to let you know also, Student Assembly meets tonight at 7pm in the conference room in Holman Hall.
