Peace Building Through Public Opinion

Dr. Morris Mottale, a Franklin College Professor, sat between the Palestinian and Israeli negotiators last Monday, but not because the meeting was contentious. In fact, Drs. Samih El Abed and Avi Primor seemed to agree on most everything, much to the dismay of the audience. In response to the question, “Is there anything on which you don't agree?” the two chuckled, consulted and quickly proceeded to the next question.

Jazz Night

The third annual Jazz Night was a successful beginning to the Spring 2006 semester, thanks to a high student turnout and excellent planning by Student Assembly. On January 20 at 8 o’clock sharp, the Falcon’s Nest was transformed into a jazz lounge, with a full-service bar (well, almost), hors d’oeuvres, and candle-lit ambiance, all free of charge.

Arabic Night

I just want to thank everyone who came to Arabic Night. I've been the president of this club for 3 and a half years and this has been the most successful student-lead event I have ever been to at Franklin, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. Over half of the school (163 students, to be precise) attended this event, and people are still thanking and congratulating me for putting this together.

Fashion Students and Franklin

The first few seconds at the table were awkward until someone blurted out, “Come ti chiami?” Slowly the nervous Swiss girl replied, “My name is Valeria.” The students seated around the Grotto table smiled, relaxed, and began to introduce themselves.

Guilty Pleasure? or a Productive Endeavor?

I don't like movies. They make me feel bad. That is to say, there have been times that I've actually felt guilty about feeling good after watching a feel-good movie. Movies, TV, that whole Media thing was always a filtered treat when I was little. Activity was the norm, so sitting still for two hours was almost taboo in my family's factory of productivity. Case in point, I prefer natural inspiration to the gradual swelling of my excitement with the fast paced progression of a provocative plot. I would rather indulge in the sin-sation of my own chocolate creations than sit back and watch “Chocolat’s” divinations.

Clubs at Franklin

This is a short summary of all the clubs here at Franklin College. If you are interested in any of them, feel free to contact the president of the club!

The Writing Center: A Paper's Best Friend

In a tiny cubby hole of a room just to the side of the auditorium, sits a paper’s best friend. The Writing Center, created in April 2004, is designed to strengthen the work of students at Franklin College and thus far, half of the students have used the center this year. The center, run by Christina Bell, is there to do more than help with papers, giving support in many ways while continuously moving forward with new projects.

A Ribbon is Cut

The New Campus: LDVOn Monday, January 23, 2006 the new LDV building, or ‘North Campus’, was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony- though this may come as a surprise to those students who have been attending class in the LDV classrooms for the past week.

Student Assembly Passes Globus Travel Resolution

GlobusAs some of you may already know, Student Assembly has passed a resolution that would encourage the College to re-evaluate its contract with Globus Travel.

In a vote last Tuesday, Student Assembly approved Vice President Jarett Gilbert's motion to add a fifth clause onto a resolution concerning the College's contract with Globus Travel. Gilbert said, “[The additional clause] would allow us to take action if the students and faculty are not satisfied with next semester's Academic Travel arrangements.”
